| There are
many, many ghosts that roam "The Brookdale". There are
many stories, the most famous is the one of the little girl (Sarah)
about 7 when she died. She is said to have died in "The Brookroom."
It's the restaurant that was actually built around the brook that
flows down from the mountain behind the Lodge. There is about a
15 foot drop that Sarah is said to have fallen, hit her head and
died on the spot. Her mother is also said to roam around looking
for her.
There is another story of a drowning in the swimming
pool. That of another girl that met her death. This forced "The
Brookdale" to close for a good many years. The mermaid room
is another way to view the pool from underwater.
While there we met a most accommodating Bartender, Dennis. He told
us stories of how sometimes in the summer when the water was low
kids would try to sneak into the restaurant. After hearing noises,
he asked a friend to go in the Brookroom and check it out with a
flashlight in hand. His friend went from table to table until he
came to a particular table where a man in a dark suit was seated.
The man looked directly at him, then vanished. Only to learn later
that there was a man in a dark suit who regularly sat at his favorite
table. We've also heard stories of a lumberjack that died in the
woods behind the Lodge.
We were also fortunate enough to speak to a few locals.
One man in particular said he was seated at the bar alone when he
watched a little girl run from behind the bar out the door. When
he relayed the story. He was congratulated for being one of the
few to clearly see Sarah!
Our Findings
We of course, stayed in the haunted room 46 Where
we got some evp and I saw white mist over the bed. We were graciously
allowed access to "The Brookroom" while it was closed.
As we were setting up our equipment, I saw what appeared to me as
a smear in the air. I've seen in this way only one time before (
At The Myrtles ) I knew what I saw was about the height of a child.
Could this have been Sarah? I believe so!
Another very interesting thing was that we've heard
the stories of people hearing a party going on in "The Brookroom"
while it was closed. Well after setting up our equipment, we realized
that the brook was rushing way too hard to try to get evp in that
room. While we stood in the closed Brookroom We ABSOLUTELY heard
old time 40's big band music coming out of the rocks. It was faint
at first but, as I described the sound to Mark he heard it too.
We know stone holds vibration. (This is the reason why many Castles
are haunted.)
As soon as we acknowledged the music, I CLEARLY heard
talking as if there was a party going on upstairs in the area where
a band might play overlooking the Brook. Mark did not hear this
but, I have no doubt I did!
We were also, able to go upstairs where the swimming pool was
closed, It
was much colder in there than it was outside on the grounds, You
just couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.
There are a strip of charming shops and galleries
next to the lodge. It was in the stairwell next to the shops I felt
an spirit watching me and I felt as thought it was afraid of me.
I don't feel like this was a child but it was as though it needed
help and was afraid to ask. There is so much activity at The Brookdale
Lodge. This is one haunted location you don't want to miss!
